Remote LAN Connectivity
The need for remote
connectivity among distributed computers and other Ethernet-based devices is on
the rise. Ethernet has become a standard interface in many devices, replacing
traditional data interfaces. The Ethernet network environment today
includes small offices, classrooms, laboratories, and even residential homes and
apartments. Such remote networks require connectivity to central networks,
preferably by using simple hardware devices for WAN connectivity. Because WAN
access availability differs from place to place, access devices must be able to
support different types of communication links, whether the application calls
for transparent connectivity to a central or branch office or to the Internet.
DCE's remote connectivity solutions offer a range of products that provide users
with the desired transparent connectivity, and their corporate network managers
with the flexibility to choose the WAN services, port quantities and security
features that best suit their applications.
