GDC SpectraComm 5000 (SC 5000)

Integrated Access Solutions

The SpectraComm 5000 Series (SC 5000) serves as a central connection point to the network, providing high capacity wideband access to full and fractional T1 services. The SC 5000 consolidates multiple serial data streams into a single T1 high-speed stream for delivery to the network. As a result, users who currently require multiple digital or analog access lines can consolidate their bandwidth requirements over one or more T1 links, greatly reducing monthly access charges.

The SC 5000 supports a broad array of access technologies, including ISDN PRI, V.34 digital services, subrate and full rate DDS, and full or fractional T1.

Integrating your access channel grooming by means of the SC 5000 system permits the use of an economical high capacity T1 to replace up to 24 line-by-line terminations.  The basis of the SC 5000 system is the MS-2 shelf, SpectraComm Manager (SCM) and the SC 5001. The SCM provides the management and configuration interface and the SC 5001 Line Terminating Unit (LTU) terminates the T1 and provides a DSX-1 ?cascade port? interface and a back plane interface for emulator cards. A 16-slot SpectraComm MS-2 Shelf
supports up to four SC 5001 LTUs and up to 72 Data Ports.

A means of protection known as ?diverse routing? permits redundancy at the carrier T1 and FT1 levels. When this method is used, the application deploys two SC 5001 LTUs, each terminating T1 services from separate paths, ensuring route diversity.  In the event of a T1 failure, the network manager reconfigures all bandwidth assigned from the primary LTU to the backup LTU, utilizing the alternate T1?s route. Remote data sets attached to alternate WAN ports are then activated, re-establishing complete data flow.

SpectraComm PRI

The SpectraComm PRI (SC PRI) card performs the necessary signaling to support Primary Rate ISDN (PRI). When the PRI card is installed in conjunction with a SC 5001, it performs signaling on channel 24 of the T1/PRI line. Channels 1 through 23 are available for user traffic and can be distributed to SC 5034 DSE cards.  Multiple ISDN PRI lines can be provisioned, by arrangement with the service provider. The PRI card supports D channel signaling for two PRI lines connected to individual SC 5001 LTUs.  All 24 channels of the second PRI line are available to carry user traffic for a total of 47 channels.

SpectraComm Alarm Card  The SpectraComm Alarm Card allows the user to extend alarm monitoring capabilities. The Alarm Card provides contacts to activate local and remote customer alarm systems, local and remote indication of alarms in a system, and separate cutoff controls for local and remote systems.
