The STM-2 is a miniature
statistical multiplexer, multiplexing two asynchronous
channels onto a single synchronous composite link, at data
rates up to 19.2 kbps. Error-free, end-to-end performance is
provided by powerful error detection and automatic
retransmission.
Composite link interface is
V.24/RS-232.
Any channel can be used as a command
port to configure the entire system or to perform diagnostic
tests.
Password secured access ensures high
security, preventing unauthorized alteration of the system
configuration.
The STM-2 features permanent storage
of the system configuration, using non-volatile memory.
Downline loading of the configuration parameters from the
local to the remote STM-2, or vice versa, is performed by
software command.
The STM-2 features independent
hardware and software flow control for each channel.
End-to-end flow control can be exercised from DTE to DTE or
from the STM-2 channel to the remote DTE. Several characters
for X-ON and X-OFF are provided, enabling compatibility with
most applications.
Comprehensive diagnostic capabilities
provide local and remote loopbacks on the channels or on the
composite link. The STM-2 can control pins 18 and 21 on the
composite link, for sending loopback commands to the modem
connected to the link. This enables complete system
diagnostics, including testing of modems between STM-2s.
The STM-2 is available in a miniature
enclosure. Sub-channel connections are made via two RJ-45
connectors.
The STM-2 is powered via an external,
stand-alone power supply (5 VDC, 700 mA, regulated).
