FEATURES

• MTM-15 is a medium-range, 4-wire voice band modem, operating at data rates up to 19.2 kbps. It is optimized for metropolitan applications, where the distance is too long for short-range modems.

• The MTM-15 Sync/Async modem operates over 4-wire private or leased lines, conditioned or unconditioned. It uses an adaptive equalizer and 16-state, 8-dimensional Trellis-coded modulation to achieve error-free communication. Over conditioned lines, the range depends on line quality and can reach 100 km (62 miles). Over unconditioned (24 AWG) lines, MTM 15 has a range of 19 km (12 miles) at 19.2 kbps.

• The transmit level is selectable in 3 dB increments, over the range of 0 to -12 dBm. Transmit timing is provided internally, or derived externally from the data terminal or from receive signal. Receive timing is regenerated from the data. Line communication is always synchronous. When set to Async mode, MTM-15 converts DTE Async data to Sync format in compliance with V.14 (ITU-T V.22 bis) standard.

• MTM-15 features V.54 diagnostics capabilities for performing local analog loopback and local and remote digital loopbacks. The loopbacks can be controlled by either front panel push buttons or by toggling DTE interface pins 18 or 21.

• In addition, MTM-15 can perform a Bit Error Test on the link, using an internal pseudo-random test pattern and a front panel LED (SQ) that flashes when a bit error is detected. Line quality is tested continuously. When the bit error exceeds 10-3, the Signal Quality (SQ) LED flashes.

• MTM-15 is available as a standalone unit or as a rack-mount card for the ASM-MN-214 19" modem rack. The rack can hold up to fourteen MTM-15 cards. Special hardware is available for mounting one or two standalone units in a 19" rack.
