RAD M-TFC MiniatureToken Ring Fiber Optic Converter

 FEATURES

  • M-TFC Miniature Token Ring Fiber Optic Converter, provides electrical to optical conversion of an IEEE 802.5 signal for standard PC Token Ring adapter cards or PCMCIA adapters.
  • The unit is used to connect PCs and laptops to a Token Ring LAN in applications that require the use of fiber optic cabling.
  • An infrared transmitter converts the IEEE 802.5 electrical signal into an optical signal. At the receiver side the optical signal is converted back into an electrical signal. The insert/bypass command originating at the Token Ring Adapter Card, in the form of a "phantom" current, is carried through the fiber using signaling according to the IEEE 802.5J standard.
  • M-TFC is powered from a regulated +5 VDC power source in one of 3 ways :
    • from the keyboard connector of a laptop
    • through pin-3 of the DB-9 connector of a Token Ring adapter
    • an external regulated power adapter.
  • Connection to the Token Ring PC adapter card is provided via a DB-9 male connector. When connecting to the PCMCIA card, a standard cable supplied with the PCMCIA module is used.
