Overview | |
Patton Digital Sharing Devices allow the user immediate system expansion without acquiring additional data lines or modems. This high speed bidirectional device allows up to eight DCE or DTE devices to share one DCE or DTE device in a polled or contention environment. Sub-channels contend for the main channel by activating RTS, DCD or by detecting data transitions. The Digital Sharing Devices act as both modem and port sharing devices. Sub-channels contend for the main channel by activating RTS/DCD or by data transitions. The Digital Sharing Devices have two modes of terminal access that can be configured at installation: Sequential scanning for equal access, or priority mode for terminals with preferred access. Clocking is provided by an external modem connected on the Master port, or by the internal baud rate generator which provides rates up to 2,048Kbps. In addition, any Sub-Channel port can be configured to provide clocking. Fallback to the internal clock or a Sub-Channel clock will occur if the clock provided by the master source fails or if DCD on Sub-Channel 1 becomes inactive. The Digital Sharing Devices incorporate anti-streaming features that automatically remove a defective Sub-Channel from service to prevent network lockups. Any Sub-Channel can be taken off line for local servicing through use of the front panel Enable/Disable switches. The User may configure any Sub-Channel for DTE or DCE to accommodate tail circuit modems mixed with terminals. Data or Interface Lead contention is individually selectable on each channel. The Digital Sharing Devices have internal linear power supplies that
operate at 110/220V switch selectable. No bulky wall mount power
transformers to clutter up your data center. |
