Overview
ProxLink wirelessly interconnects devices with RS-232 interfaces. Any devices that are interconnected through a standard RS-232 interface and cable at 19.2Kbps or lower can be wirelessly connected with ProxLink. ProxLink is a wireless replacement for the RS-232 cable. ProxLink is resistant to interference and noise from other devices operating in the 902-928MHz ISM band. Multiple ProxLink can be operated simultaneously in the same facility. ProxLink key features include:

Specifications

  • Wireless communication for standard RS-232 interfaces

  • Resistant to interference and noise from other devices operating in the band

  • Range up to 1000 ft. (300m) possible

  • Packetized interface offered for custom RS-232 interface protocol applications such as multipoint RS-232 environments

  • Simultaneous operation of multiple ProxLinks

  • Multiple Antenna options to extend range and coverage

  • NEMA enclosures available for harsh environments

ProxLink provides a simple and reliable wireless replacement for any three wire asynchronous (RXD. TXD and GND) RS-232 link running at speeds up to 19.2Kbps. Using spread spectrum technology, the ProxLink provides robust, interference resistant operation which penetrates through walls and other obstructions.

ProxLink offers a working range of up to 1000 feet. The actual range may vary due to differences in physical operating environments.

Spread spectrum technology allows use of these products without a FCC site license. This unit has been certified use as unlicensed spread spectrum devices with the FCC.

The ProxLink supports three modes of operation:

  • Pass-through mode. In pass-through mode the ProxLink unit transmits data as it is received from its serial port and the receiving unit passes the data through its serial port. This is a 'wire-replacement' mode and installation is 'plug and play'.

  • Broadcast mode. Allows one unit to broadcast its messages to multiple units simultaneously. This capability is often used in simultaneously updating messages on multiple number of signs.

  • Packetized Mode. In packetized mode the ProxLink may be dynamically controlled by an external computer using Proxim's packetized command set. This command set includes transmission, configuration and power management features. A common application is the support of multipoint wireless RS-232 functions.

Multiple Antenna options available. Some of them are:

  • High gain omni directional antenna for extended coverage in all dimensions.

  • High gain directional antenna for extended range in a single direction.

  • Vehicle mount antenna for mobile applications.

  • Lightning arrestors for outdoor applications.

  • Optional mounting hardware and custom cable lengths for specialized mounting needs.

In addition, ProxLink's multiple spread spectrum channels and robust CSMA/CA (Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance) protocol allows multiple radios to operate simultaneously without interfering with each other.

Benefits

  • Easy Installation
Plug-in and use wireless RS-232 features in minutes

  • No FCC Site Licensing Required
ISM band spread spectrum operation requires no FCC license

  • Reliable Communication
ProxLink spread spectrum technology is resistant to interference and noise

  • High Speed RS-232 Communications
