DESCRIPTION

The APM is easy to set up. Just define the length of the polling address (one or two bytes), its position in the poll (first, second, third character, etc.), adjust an idle timer to account for time between polls, then map the addresses to the frame relay DLCI addresses. It couldnt be easier or more flexible in its application.

The APM makes it easy to convert async polling networks from multipoint modems to frame relay. Fast polling modems are disappearing from the market place at the same time async polling systems are speeding up their requirements from 1200 to 9600 bps and faster. As remote terminal units become more capable, more data must be exchanged from the host to the remote units for financial, traffic and SCADA networks. The APM is the ideal product for this requirement. It supports async port speeds up to 57.6 Kbps and synchronous frame relay composite speeds to 128 Kbps.

The APM is also as cost effective or more so than analog high speed fast polling modems. Frame relay networks are becoming less expensive than analog multipoint networks, and the DSUs are less expensive than high speed fast poll modems, even in combination with DCBs SR-01. The hardware cost savings provide a compelling reason to use the APM.

An internal DSU is also available for the APM, as well as for the remote units, which are the DCB SR-01 frame relay units (the APM is required only at the host end). With an internal DSU, you get the entire package you need in a single enclosure.
