RAD ACE-52 Network Termination Unit
Features:
Maximizes revenues by running
additional services on the existing ATM infrastructure
Assures end-to-end Quality of Service and differentiated service level
agreements (SLAs)
Allows integration of voice and data services over the ATM network
Remote management simplifies installation and increases system uptime
Low cost, dedicated NTU allows service providers to roll out high end
services with minimal capital expenditure (Capex)
Supports multiple services, including LAN, voice, video and data
Generate new
revenue streams with transparent LAN services over ATM.
The low cost ACE-52 multiservice network termination unit allows service
providers to take advantage of their existing ATM infrastructure for
providing transparent LAN services, as well as integrated voice and data
services, over the ATM network. Services are enhanced by ATM’s high
capacity, reliability and Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities.
Multiple Services over ATM
Service providers are looking for ways to
cost-effectively run more services over their ATM backbones, to leverage
their widespread deployment of ATM. RAD’s ACE-52 is ideal for transporting
transparent LAN services (TLS) over the ATM network, since it allows both
transparent LAN bridging and VLAN bridging in point-to-point or
point-to-multipoint topology. In addition to its attractive price, the ACE-52
provides L2 VPN service. Using VLAN tagging, the ACE-52 achieves total
traffic separation between customers by assigning VLAN IDs to virtual
connections (VCs), creating a Layer 2 virtual private network (VPN) for each
customer or service (e.g., date, voice, video). Optionally, a different
priority can be defined for different types of traffic within each VPN by
mapping VLAN priority to different VCs with appropriate QoS
parameters.ACE-52 supports voice and other TDM services over ATM through an
E1/T1 circuit emulation service (CES) port, which enables users to connect
their PBX or any other TDM device to the ACE-52 and extend circuits over the
public ATM network. This feature supports structured or unstructured
services with or without CAS. The CES port synchronized with the ACE-52
ensures clock synchronization over the ATM network.
Intelligent
Demarcation Ensures End-to-End Control
The low cost ACE-52 NTU serves as a
demarcation device that is owned and managed by the service provider and
installed at the customer premises. ACE-52 monitors and controls traffic
entering and exiting the network, enabling the service provider to maintain
QoS commitments to all its customers end-to-end.
OAM Functionality
Reduces Opex
ATM OAM functionality supported by ACE-52
helps reduce operational costs by providing end-to-end traffic manageability
and fault localization.
OAM functionality complies with ITU-T I.610 and includes the following:
• AIS/RDI – system indication for fault conditions in the network. In case
these indications are detected in the network interface, ACE-52 sends a trap
to alert the management system.
• Continuity Check (CC) – this OAM type is used to check service
availability. ACE-52 sends a CC cell periodically over a predefined VCC and
verifies that the link is intact.
• Loopback (LB) – using the LB option, LB functions can be used for fault
localization. The LB cell can be sent with a destination address and may be
looped at any network element that was pre-assigned with a loopback point
address.
Offer Differentiated Services
The ACE-52 lets the service provider
assign QoS parameters per virtual connection (VC), enabling it to generate
additional revenue by offering different levels of service. ACE-52 supports
five different service classes: CBR, VBR,GFR and UBR. The ACE-52 assures
that the guaranteed data rate of each VC is granted, and that the maximum
data rate of each VC is not exceeded.
Sophisticated traffic management capabilities, such as traffic shaping and
monitoring, help carriers avoid congestion and anticipate problems before
they affect the service. They also make sure that users do not exceed their
allocated bandwidth while increased statistical efficiency allows the
customer to pass more traffic over the link when the network is free
Remote
Management Eases Installation and Minimizes System Downtime
Plug-and-play installation, automatic IP address learning and remote
configuration simplify ACE-52 deployment. The device can be managed by the
RADview HP OpenView application running on a UNIX or PC platform, which
provides the capability to monitor, configure, isolate faults and present
network statistics on a graphical, user-friendly display. Configuration can
be remotely downloaded/uploaded to/from the ACE-52. CORBA interface
facilitates easy integration with third-party network management systems.
